The body needs six different types of food to enable it to operate effectively.
The three building blocks are proteins, carbohydrates and fat. Vitamins and
minerals are needed to stimulate the enzymes and chemical reactions in the
body and the sixth element is water. To obtain optimum nutrition the body
needs around 60% carbohydrates, 10% - 15% protein depending on age and
activity levels, 25% fats, various vitamins and minerals and plenty of fluids – at
least 2 litres or 6 – 8 large glasses of water a day.
To be healthy we need to understand what is good for us by reading the signs
and signals our body sends and then adjusting our eating habits in order to
obtain the optimum nutrition in order to function in the most efficient way.
Everyone is unique and no one diet fits all. Factors such as metabolic rate,
genes, lifestyle, exposure to pollution, stress levels the amount of exercise and
of course food and liquid intake all dictate the levels of our health and
wellbeing.
In the Western world many people suffer with obesity which leads to ailments
and illnesses due to poor diet. By choosing the wrong foods for our body we no
longer receive the nutrients in order to obtain optional hormonal and
metabolic balance. Nutritional Therapy helps you to retrain your body by
eating the right foods for you in order to boost your health and wellbeing,
increase your energy and live your life to the full.
